The honors program in engineering is part of the University James Scholar program established to recognize and encourage the talents of academically outstanding students. Students in the program are expected to perform at a superior level throughout their undergraduate careers. They are recognized on their academic record for their accomplishments. James Scholars are assigned to honors advisors in their respective departments and are issued a library stacks pass which can be obtained at the Main Library Circulation Desk.
 The Engineering College Honors Program is built around two phases. The first phase serves freshman students, and the second phase is a coordinated set of honors activities spread over the sophomore, junior, and senior years.
